Ryker's Top 5 Books This Month

Ever since Ryker was born, I have made a solid effort to read to him every single day. When he was a tiny baby, I would prop him up in his baby seat and read him chapter books. We made it through Charlotte’s Web, The Trumpeter Swan, and Stuart Little just to name a few.

Now that he is a toddler, his attention span for long chapter books without pictures is non existent. However, he does have a love for reading, and I will catch him sitting in his chair in his room thumbing through different stories.

I have a love for reading myself, even though it’s much harder for me to read my own books these days. Most of my reading consists of fuzzy animals and ABCs and 1 2 3s. My hope is that my love for reading will pass on to Ryker, and he will enjoy it as much as I do. There are so many benefits to reading with your children, and having them read on their own ~ a blog for later down the line. But for today, I wanted to share Ryker’s top 5 books that he is loving at the moment.

Ryker’s book choices are precise, and deliberate. He definitely knows what he wants me to read to him, and what he doens’t like. It’s cute and frustrating at the same time. I end up reading the same books over and over. “Just try this one…I promise you will like it!” Two pages in, Ryker will close the book and sayyy “noooooo”. Gotta hand it to him, the kid knows what he wants.

So without further ado, here are the top 5 books that Ryker is loving at the moment:

  1. Mother Bruce: This book is entertaining for both Ryker and myself. The references to current culture provides adult humor sprinkled throughout. Ryker walks around saying “Bruce, Bruce.”

  2. Brown Bear Brown Bear, What Do you See? : I’m not sure if it’s the repetitive cadence or the big bright pictures, but Ryker loves this book. He has also learned all the animals so that is a plus.

  3. The Very Hungry Caterpillar: A classic. I also just got this book on the moonlite projector so we can read it at night like a movie. They have so many different books and its a fun and interactive way to read.

  4. Hop on Pop: This book was one of my favorites as a kid! I love reading to him because it brings back a lot of memories for me. I think Ryker likes the short rhymes, and also the fact that he knows what certain words and pictures are.

  5. Polar Bear Polar Bear, What Do you Hear?: The follow up to Brown Bear Brown Bear - Ryker probably likes the familiarity of the format. But he is learning a whole new set of animals!

Those are the top books on Ryker’s list right now! I will update you with his new favorites next month, because I am sure they will change!
